MAKING SENSE CHRONICLES

For Your Family Wordpress Page I created this web page for family fun.  There are crafts for kids, family games, family food recipes and other items designed just for the family. Leadership Theory Wordpress Page This website contains creative ideas and writings from my undergraduate students from my classes who define their interpretation of what leadership is. Excellent Vacations Wordpress Page This website is dedicated to giving travel advice and tell of some great destinations to visit.  It also includes our own commentary of some of the places we have visited like Harry Potter at Universal Studios. Quality Digest.com Web Page This was my first article that I had ever ever created.  It was for Quality Digest magazine defining the quality concepts required for suppliers with QS-9000.  At that time, I was a Supplier Development Engineer

My Career History

My first encounter and passion with teamwork came when I was in the U. S. Marines.  It was there that I learned how important teamwork is, how important it is to count on others and them to count on you.  In the military and in combat, teamwork is essential - survival depends upon it.  From then on I always valued the power of teamwork and have kept that philosophy with me all thru my life.  My second term in the Marine Corps, I was a Radar Air Traffic Controller, and once again, working as a team was incredibly important not only for each of us to depend on each other, but the fact that other human lives relied upon us as well. I won’t bore you with my life in detail, but aside from the Marine Corps, I have been a radio announcer for a popular radio station; became a journeyman meat cutter for the Kroger Company; was a restaurant manager; a district manager for a restaurant chain; an automotive process engineer; a manufacturing quality engineer; a supplier development engineer; and a quality manager.  My most recent position in life is that of a professor where I have taught at Grantham University, California State University for Advanced Studies, University of Phoenix, Ferris State University, and currently for Lansing Community College. MY POINT IN TELLING YOU ALL OF THIS is that I have experience in many areas of life and careers.  With that comes a great deal of learning and experience to where I have learned what works well and what does not work.  I have learned from my own mistakes as well as the mistakes of others.  I am not perfect, I am not an ego-tripper, but I am a realist.  I have strong confidence in my ability and know that I can do anything if someone will just show me how.  I love teaching and working with learners who want to learn, but alas, I admit I have little patience for those who just go thru the motions and are not really trying to learn but rather looking for something for free.  Our society has way too many of these people now and seeing more come on board is a bit disheartening.  Still my greatest reward comes from those who try to improve themselves.  I am very self critical and because I am a quality engineer, I strongly believe in two principles: 1. You are never perfect and should always be looking to continuously improve.  Nothing is perfect and while I never claim to be, I must try daily to be better than the day before. 2. Never assume you have solved anything.  Always look for the root cause and not the surface symptom.

My First Book - “How to Get the Job You Want &

Then Keep It!

The reason I created this book is to help primarily undergraduate students learn what they need to do to prepare themselves for a career in today’s world. It is, however, applicable to anyone looking to change their career, obtain a new career position and to understand what it takes to get ahead in their job position. Click on the book icon to the right here and you can view the basic contents of this book, or select the MY BOOK Tab.  The ideas presented are how to create a proper resume and cover letter, preparing for the job interview, typical interview questions, and the book finishes with tips on how to keep your job, impress your boss and how to get advancement within your career field.  The book delivers everything the title says it is.
